COVID-19 admissions updates
Update 12: Tuesday, January 5
Ontario Tech University has been monitoring developments both in Canada and globally with respect to school closures and test postponements/cancellations. We understand the situation is fluid at the moment, and as things change we will continue to evaluate our procedures in how we are assessing admission applications. We have created this page to provide answers to questions you may have. We will continue to update this page as new information becomes available.
We understand the difficulties that will arise in obtaining the required documentation, and we encourage students to continue working with their schools, national agencies and test providers to submit the required documents. We will work with all applicants and make necessary accommodations, offering flexibility with deadlines and documents as required by individual circumstances. If you feel your application may be impacted, or have any questions or concerns, please contact us at futurestudent@ontariotechu.ca. For all graduate level admission inquiries, please contact gradstudies@ontariotechu.ca.
COVID-19 frequently asked questions
-
I am an Ontario High School (101) applicant. How will my application be impacted?
We continue to assess all applications and grades as they are submitted to us. You will receive a decision by Thursday, May 27, even if we do not have grades for all your grade 12 courses. You will not be disadvantaged if one or more of your prerequisite courses are scheduled during the final quadmester. In cases such as this, grade 11 courses will be factored into your average calculation presuming you are registered in the corresponding grade 12 course. If applicable, your conditional offer of admission will be finalized in mid-July once all final grades have been distributed to the universities to which you have applied.
-
I have applied to graduate level studies. How will my application be impacted?
Questions relating to graduate applications, document submission, or deferrals and offers of admission should be directed to gradstudies@ontariotechu.ca.
-
Will Ontario Tech accept electronic transcripts as official?
We will accept electronic transcripts (e.g. PDF format) as official, provided they are sent directly to the university by the issuing institution. These should be sent directly from an institutional (staff) email address.
-
I will not be able to submit my required documents by the dates specified in my offer letter and applicant portal. Will I lose my offer of admission?
If you have specific questions or concerns about your deadline(s), please contact futurestudent@ontariotechu.ca (if you are a Canadian student) or contact futureinternational@ontariotechu.ca (if you are an international student) for clarification. For all graduate-level admission inquiries, please contact gradstudies@ontariotechu.ca.

I have mailed in a transcript but my applicant portal hasn't been updated.
As the province of Ontario is currently in lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be a notable delay in processing documents which are mailed to our office.
We encourage you to submit an electronic copy, scan or photo of your transcripts to futurestudent@ontariotechu.ca to ensure we can still review your application in a timely manner.
Ontario high school graduates and Ontario college and university students/graduates can request their transcripts be sent to us through their accounts with the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre.
Post-secondary students/graduates from Canadian universities and colleges outside Ontario should contact their institution(s) to inquire regarding having transcripts transmitted to our Office of the Registrar electronically.
-
I am unable to provide official transcripts by the required deadline. Can I provide these transcripts in an alternate format?
You can upload electronic copies of your documents using our online document submission tool. Official transcripts can be provided at a later date, once they are available.
-
I am unable to write an English Language Proficiency test due to the closure of testing centres. How do I prove my proficiency?
Many of the major test providers (e.g. TOEFL and IELTS) have developed at-home tests. Effective immediately, we will also accept Duolingo English Test (DET) results as valid for the September 2021 intake. The minimum required score is 110 (120 for Education and Nursing).
Please note: The School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (SGPS) does not accept the Duolingo English Test. Learn more about English language proficiency requirements for applicants applying to graduate studies.

I am an international student who is planning to start at the English Language Centre. Should I still come to Canada?
Ontario Tech University is a designated learning institution (DLI) which has been approved by both the governments of Ontario and Canada to reopen for in-person classes to international students who aren’t currently in Canada and who have, or have been approved for, a study permit. Please note: given the current public health situation in Ontario, the English Language Centre continues to offer their curriculum virtually at this time. If you have specific questions or concerns, please contact futureinternational@ontariotechu.ca. Immigration related inquiries may be referred to our International Student Services department.
